LIVE AND ONLINE LESSONS
What do you like about teaching?
It's fun to see how every student, young and old, discovers the instrument differently, when I'm able to focus the student's initial curiosity into a longterm desire to improve. It's very rewarding as a teacher to hear the results of that dedicated work.
What does a typical cello lesson look like for you?
I usually start a lesson with a little warm-up, like an improvised line or a scale. We work on how to practice tricky passages, incorporating both music theory and technique. I often play together with the student and make sure to discuss what should be prepared for the next lesson.
What styles of music do you teach?
Classical music provides the fundamental basics of cello playing. It's important for me that the student has this foundation, but also that we work on music that they can relate to. Depending on their interests, my students may learn many styles, from pop to jazz, tango or film music, as well as modern techniques like “chopping” and cello percussion.
What was one of your favorite moments teaching?
In my 12 years of experience, I've had a lot of gratifying moments. Most recently, a 7 year old came into a lesson and performed an exercise which he had thought up, composed and written down himself. That was very rewarding to see!
Every lesson with Samira is unique. Samira adapts to her students needs and abilities with well thought-out literature and exercises. I'm very happy to have found her!
