She has recorded for Sony Music, Universal and Warner Chappell Music labels.
Through her collaborations with musicians of many genres, including Rock, Pop, Chanson, Soul and Tango (both live and in studio) Samira has become a versatile and multifaceted cellist. With her ingenuity for setting the cello in unconventional ensembles, Samira has curated specific and unique groups that can provide musical enrichment for any event. Her arrangements for these ensembles reveal her passion for performing many musical styles. Her live acts CELLECTRO, SHE PLAYS CELLO and FINE ARTS STRING QUARTET perform stand-alone concerts, but can also be booked to perform at private or corporate events. They have been the musical highlight at award ceremonies, gala dinners, fundraisers, and have made television appearances on ZDF.
SHE PLAYS CELLO
she plays cello performs music that spans centuries, all arranged uniquely for the cello trio. Samira had the inspiration to found the ensemble after attending a master class with world renowned jazz cellist Stephan Braun. The beautiful lyrical sound of cello is on display with Schumann’s “Wenn ich ein Vöglein wär’” as well as its astonishing virtuosity in Schubert’s “Erlkönig”. In addition they use innovative techniques, like cello percussion and chopping to create a modern sound for pop songs like “Hallelujah”, “Shape of you” or “Heroes” by David Bowie.
FINE ARTS STRING QUARTET
Fine Arts String Quartet is a vivacious new ensemble consisting of four of Berlin’s most versatile young chamber musicians. Drawing from all corners of the globe, Fine Arts String Quartet boasts Sarah Martin (USA) and Benjamin Pant (UK) on violin, Elizabeth Boardman (USA) on viola, and Samira Aly (Germany) on Cello. These four international musicians met while freelancing in Berlin and immediately bonded over their passion for performing chamber music. Above all, they united over their common desire to make chamber music feel more approachable and tangible to both musical and non-musical
Samira and her electric cello, accompanied by a loop station and an arsenal of effects, create an exceptional sonic experience. Layer by layer, she builds interpretations of well known songs like Radiohead’s Creep or Viva la Vida by Coldplay, creating the sound of entire cello ensemble. Inspired by the range of possibilities, Samira also performs her own compositions of atmospheric music incorporating improvisation and extended techniques.
MissesGOLD is a group of female musicians, who light up the stage with their unique arrangements and performances of famous tunes. Samira accompanies singer Susanne Gmelch and with the help of a pianist or a violinist and live loops, they create a sound that is intimate enough for a living room concert, yet full enough for a concert venue. From their soulful version of “Summertime” to the rock sound they create in “Come Together” they deliver a diverse program that has captivated audiences throughout Germany.
MissesGOLD has been celebrated as the musical highlight at everything from gala concerts to private events.
As an avid chamber musician, Samira founded her classic duo to take advantage of the wide range of repertoire written for cello and piano, from virtuosic classics of Beethoven and Brahms sonatas to the fiery tangos of Astor Piazzolla. Along with pianist Yuliya Drogalova, they have performed at political events and award ceremonies like the Caroline-von-Humbolt-Professorship award at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
